Though syntax and phonology are certainly distinct levels, nonethe- less the grammar and pronunciation of a language cannot be fully described in disjoint vocabularies with neither description making any reference to the categories employed in the other. The issues discussed here are how for each domain is relevant to generalizations in the other, and in what speciﬁc ways.
